How to create a print-quality design in Canva
Because your design will be enlarged before printing, anything blurry at small size gets worse at full size. These tips keep your banner sharp at any scale.
Use high-resolution images
Upload photos at the largest size you have. Avoid small images pulled from Google or social media — they look fine on screen but pixelate when enlarged 2x or 3x.
Export as PDF Print
When downloading from Canva, choose PDF Print instead of PNG or JPG. PDFs preserve text and shapes as vectors, so they stay crisp at any size.
Pick the right Canva crop marks & bleed
In the PDF Print export options, turn on Crop marks and bleed. This adds a safe edge so your design doesn’t get cut off when we trim the printed banner.
Keep text away from the edges
Leave roughly 1 inch of empty space (on your scaled-down Canva canvas) around text and logos. Hemmed edges and grommets can hide content placed too close.
Bold colors, big fonts
Banners are viewed from a distance. Use thick fonts (24pt+ at Canva scale), strong color contrast, and avoid thin outlines that disappear when scaled up.
Send us the PDF, not a screenshot
Always upload the downloaded PDF file. Screenshots or photos of your Canva screen lose huge amounts of quality and will print blurry.
