Custom vinyl banner size guide

Pick a banner size from two things: the space it has to fit and how far away people will read it. For one person or one photo, a portrait 2' x 3' banner is the usual choice; for a team, a party wall or a storefront, a wide 2' x 6' or 3' x 6' banner; and when it must be read across a field, a parking lot or a street, 4' x 6' or larger.

How to choose a banner size in three steps

Measure the space. Measure the wall, fence panel, table front or window where it will hang, and leave a few inches on every side for ties or hooks.
Check the viewing distance. A common sign rule of thumb is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet people will be from the banner. Headline letters 4 inches tall read well from about 40 feet; a name that must be read from the stands needs bigger letters, so a bigger banner.
Pick the shape. Portrait banners (taller than wide, like 2' x 3' or 4' x 6') suit one person's photo. Wide banners (like 2' x 6' or 3' x 10') suit a line of text, a logo, or a row of photos.

Design at the banner's real proportions so nothing gets cropped: a 2' x 3' banner is a 2:3 portrait, a 2' x 6' banner is 1:3.
